It's correct that the tape drive's compression is normally not as efficient as the zip utility on your computer... I am using 800GB tapes (400GB Native).I select use hardware compression in Backup Exec and software if not available.However, the backup gets to between 350GB - 450GB and stop working, stating Now, I am going to have a lot more than 20GB of data on each...

At the DAT 72 tapes, my backup took 5/6 hours to finish. They switched to all Mac's last month with a mac mini server and an off the shelf external drive for backup. Installed all Windows Updates 3.
